the kazee quartet

so, i should have posted this awhile back but i am learning quickly that life is not as flexible as it was a few weeks ago!

milia mae's birth story...
7am: we celebrated aubren's birthday and she was very excited about getting a little mermaid dress. we dropped her off at her friend avery's house and headed to the hospital.
8am: we arrived at Baylor to induce labor
9am: i was dilated to a 2 and our doctor applied cream to finish thinning out my cervix. within 15 minutes i was having contractions every 2-3 minutes. trey and i walked the halls for awhile then decided it was time for a visit with the anesthesiologist.
10:30am: received my epidural. although i was glad to be pain free, the epidural was the worst part of the process. my legs were completely numb and tingly. unable to move anything below the waist was very irritating! i was expecting it to be similar to the one i had with aubs where i could still move around and did not have a tingly sensation.
11:00am: our doctor broke my water and started me on a slow drip of pitocin. within an hour or so i was feeling the tightening of contractions and the pressure of her head.
2:00pm: the nurse checked me and told me i was dilated to a 10. i could not believe how everything was happening so quickly. i heard that the 2nd kid always goes quicker. of course anything is faster than the 18 hour labor with aubren!
2:40pm: i start pushing.
2:55pm: milia mae kazee arrived!

aubren meeting milia for the first time.when she walked into the room she was overwhelmed by the four family members taking photos of her. when i asked her what she though of her baby sister, she said, "thank you".

happy 3rd birthday aubs!
to celebrate the girl's birthdays, aubren and i baked a strawberry cake and brought it to the hospital. aubs was excited about the arrival of her sister but kept asking if it was time to eat cake and open presents.

milia has been such a sweet addition to our family. she is super cuddly just like her big sister and wants to be held all the time. we are finally learning her cues. for instance, when she gets frustrated while eating, but still rooting, we are realizing that she is no longer hungry but wants to be put to sleep. she wants us to hold her and walk around until she crashes. i do love though that when she is upset the second we lift her to our chest she is still and quiet!

aubren is obsessed with milia. she wants to be in her face all the time. she is a great big sister and wants to make sure milia is always okay. in the hospital, she was very protective and would get concerned when milia would start crying or when the nurse would take her back into the nursery.

the transition has gone well. the second time around is much easier in most areas but it is more difficult when you are exhausted and still have to entertain a 3 year old. aubren has been overly emotional since milia came home. i am not sure how much of it is because she is sharing the spotlight or perhaps because she had to stop using her pacifier. at her 3 year checkup the doctor spoke with her about getting rid of her pacifier because it is pushing her teeth out. the next morning aubren walked her paci to the trash and explained that she is a big girl and doesn't need a paci. at her nap that day she asked where her paci was and before she got the answer she said, "oh, that's right, i throwed it away"! she hasn't asked for it since.
